Our charter school serving students with autism and other special needs is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our collaborative therapy and educational team. This is a wonderful opportunity for a PTA who enjoys helping children improve their mobility, independence, confidence, and participation in school activities.
The Physical Therapist Assistant will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide individualized, school-based physical therapy services. The ideal candidate is patient, dependable, collaborative, and passionate about supporting students with diverse abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement physical therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Provide individual and small-group therapy services in accordance with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Support students in developing strength, balance, coordination, mobility, positioning, and gross-motor skills.
- Assist students with safe participation in classroom, campus, recreational, and adaptive activities.
- Monitor student performance and communicate progress or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Collect data and maintain accurate, timely treatment notes and other required documentation.
- Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, behavior analysts, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, families, and other members of the educational team.
- Assist with adaptive equipment, positioning systems, mobility devices, and staff training as directed by the Physical Therapist.
- Follow all school, professional, confidentiality, safety, and infection-control procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current and active Florida Physical Therapist Assistant license.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification before employment.
- Ability to pass all required background screenings.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to perform the physical responsibilities associated with assisting students safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric or school-based physical therapy experience.
- Experience supporting children with autism, developmental disabilities, or other special needs.
- Familiarity with IEPs, educational documentation, adaptive equipment, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Duties
- Assist licensed physical therapists in implementing individualized therapy plans for students with diverse needs, including pediatrics and geriatrics
- Conduct clinical assessments and document progress accurately in accordance with clinical documentation standards and medical terminology
- Apply various therapeutic techniques such as manual therapy, trigger point therapy, and orthopedics-focused interventions to support student mobility and function
- Operate medical equipment safely and effectively during therapy sessions, ensuring proper use and maintenance
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, educators, caregivers, and families to develop comprehensive care plans and discharge strategies
- Maintain detailed electronic health records (EHR) management, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and documentation standards
- Support discharge planning processes by documenting client progress and communicating effectively with all stakeholders
Qualifications
- Valid licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in the relevant state or region
- Prior experience working in outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, inpatient settings, or home health environments preferred
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, physiology knowledge, medical terminology, and physiotherapy techniques including manual therapy and trigger point therapy
- Experience with clinical assessment documentation and medical documentation practices
- Proficiency in operating medical equipment used in physical therapy treatments
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) management systems and medical documentation standards
- Excellent communication skills for caregiver communication and client interaction
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience working with diverse populations such as pediatrics, geriatrics, or patients requiring orthopedics care is highly desirable
