Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled CDL Operator - Transportation Equipment Operator to join our heavy haul team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for operating and transporting a variety of heavy-duty construction and transportation equipment for clients. Your expertise will help ensure the safe, efficient, and timely completion of projects that improve our community’s transportation network. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse construction sites, heavy equipment rental agencies and utilizing your mechanical knowledge and heavy equipment operation skills to make a tangible impact.
Duties
- Operate a range of heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and front loader trucks to perform earthmoving, grading, paving, and utility installation tasks.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks on all equipment to ensure safety and optimal performance in compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Perform safely loading and unloading activities with excavators, graders, other machinery and utility locating to support construction projects.
- Load and unload materials using appropriate machinery while practicing safe manual handling techniques for heavy lifting.
- Follow all safety protocols and construction site procedures to maintain a secure work environment for team members and the public.
- Collaborate with project managers and team members to coordinate equipment usage efficiently across highway maintenance and civil infrastructure projects.
- Maintain detailed logs of equipment operation hours, inspections, and maintenance activities for record-keeping purposes.
Skills
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and front loader trucks in a construction setting.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic issues on Caterpillar or similar heavy machinery.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations related to commercial vehicle operation and safety standards.
- Skilled in utility locating and working on various construction projects involving civil infrastructure.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while working on construction sites or highway maintenance projects.
- Excellent understanding of construction site safety practices and the importance of adhering to OSHA guidelines.
- CDL A experience with tractor and trailer combos. Lowboy and Landoll experience a plus.
