A $4,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position.**
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a licensed candidate who has experience providing therapeutic services to adults with serious mental illness in a correctional setting and experience working with the Court system for the Therapist position with Adult Correctional Services program in the Behavioral Health Division.
Responsibilities:
Provide logistical coordination, advocacy, and therapeutical treatment and support services for participants in the competency restoration program.
Serve as a liaison between participants, clinical staff, defense attorneys, courts, and correctional staff.
Responsible for delivering individual therapy sessions as part of the competency restoration process and involves daily interaction with clients with serious mental illness in a correctional setting.
Conduct comprehensive intake assessments for new participants.
Administer mental status examinations.
Track court deadlines for reports and evaluations.
Assess impact of symptoms on competency domains.
Conduct individual therapy sessions with participants.
Address mental health symptoms interfering with competency.
Teach coping skills for managing courtroom anxiety and stress.
Work on decision-making skills specific to participant's legal choices.
Address emotional and psychological barriers to competency restoration.
Build therapeutic alliance and trust.
Prepare reports for Program Director and administration.
Ensure compliance with documentation standards.
Compile statistical reports on programming activities and outcomes.
Provide supportive counseling throughout legal process.
This position is also eligible to receive a $5,000 annual stipend to be paid in installments over the 26 pay periods.

$1,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
$1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
$1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
