Position: PICC / Vascular Access Registered Nurse

Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive vascular access assessments and determine the most appropriate vascular access device based on the patient's condition and prescribed therapy.
- Insert Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) using ultrasound guidance and approved sterile techniques.
- Insert and manage midline catheters and peripheral IVs (PIVs), including ultrasound-guided IV placement.
- Provide vascular access for patients with difficult or limited venous access.
- Assess, access, maintain, and troubleshoot central venous access devices (CVADs).
- Perform dressing changes, flushing, blood draws, and other vascular access maintenance procedures in accordance with facility policies.
- Assess vascular access sites for signs of infection, infiltration, extravasation, thrombosis, occlusion, migration, or other complications.
- Troubleshoot and manage complications associated with PICCs, midlines, peripheral IVs, and other vascular access devices.
- Maintain strict sterile technique and follow infection-prevention practices designed to reduce Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI).
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacy, nursing, radiology, and other clinical departments regarding vascular access needs and device selection.
- Provide education to Veterans and their families regarding vascular access device care, maintenance, and potential complications.
- Serve as a vascular access resource for nursing staff and other members of the healthcare team.
- Accurately document assessments, procedures, device placement, maintenance, complications, and patient education in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement, infection prevention, and patient safety initiatives related to vascular access.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in a U.S. state or territory.
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program.
- Current BLS certification.
- Previous clinical experience performing vascular access procedures.
- Demonstrated competency in PICC line insertion and maintenance.
- Experience with ultrasound-guided vascular access.
- Experience inserting and managing midlines and peripheral IVs.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, infection prevention, and CLABSI prevention.
- Ability to independently assess patients with difficult vascular access and determine appropriate vascular access options.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience
- 2+ years of vascular access/PICC nursing experience.
- Experience independently inserting PICCs and midlines.
- Extensive experience with ultrasound-guided PIV placement.
- Experience caring for patients with difficult venous access.
Pay: From $60.00 per hour
