Engineer Tool 1 – Aerospace Tooling Design:
A major Aerospace company is seeking an Engineer Tool 1 to join its Tooling Engineering team in El Segundo, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to support the design and development of production tooling used on advanced aerospace programs. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, collaborating across manufacturing and engineering teams, and working in a fast-paced environment where innovation and quality are critical.
Responsibilities:
- Design industrial tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, dies, machine attachments, and support equipment for manufacturing and assembly operations
- Develop tooling concepts for both new and existing aerospace programs
- Create engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans
- Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, function, and production efficiency
- Ensure tooling designs meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives
- Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, process engineering, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams
- Manage tooling projects through design, procurement, fabrication, and implementation
- Review completed drawings for clarity, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with drafting standards
- Identify design improvements and provide recommendations to engineering teams
- Support vendors during tooling fabrication and inspect completed tooling for drawing compliance
- Participate in root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another STEM discipline
- Experience with CAD modeling and drafting software (Siemens NX and/or CATIA preferred)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and machine shop practices
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, materials, processes, and manufacturability
- Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Strong technical aptitude with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Aerospace manufacturing experience
- Experience designing tooling and support equipment for production environments
- Experience with composite manufacturing tooling
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system experience
- Vendor management and tooling fabrication experience
- Experience preparing tooling statements of work and design estimates
- Experience performing stress analysis using FEMAP/NASTRAN
- Professional Engineering (PE) License
