Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for procedures
- Assist dentists chairside during various treatments including general dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry
- Take and develop dental X-rays and other medical imaging to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide excellent patient care by taking vital signs, explaining procedures, and addressing patient questions with professionalism and empathy
- Maintain strict infection prevention protocols through proper sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques, and infection control policies
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and managing medical documentation and records
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with familiarity in dental assisting duties
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures including dental sterilization, infection control, and dental x-ray techniques
- Proficiency with EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; experience with medical coding is a plus
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while maintaining safety standards for patients and staff
- Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control practices along with aseptic techniques
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members including dental hygienists, dentists, and front office staff
- Certification or training in dental assisting is preferred; familiarity with pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and four-handed dentistry is advantageous
