Cultivation Director – Outdoor Light Deprivation Cannabis
Location: Central Coast, CA (between Buellton and Paso Robles)Sierra Botanicals is looking for an experienced Cultivation Director to take ownership of our light deprivation cannabis cultivation program, spanning 12 total acres across four sites on the Central Coast. This is a hands on leadership role for someone who has run large scale outdoor cultivation before and knows what it takes to hit yield and quality targets year after year, while keeping crews safe, organized, and compliant across multiple locations.Sierra Botanicals also operates a Type 7 manufacturing laboratory, so this role sits within a broader vertically integrated operation. You won't be running the lab, but you'll be working alongside a team that touches every part of the supply chain from plant to product. What you'll be doingYou'll run the day to day cultivation program from clone to harvest across all four sites and their light dep structures and outdoor rows. That means planning planting schedules, managing irrigation and fertigation, overseeing IPM, training and supervising crew leads and site managers, and making sure every phase of the grow is dialed in and on track across the whole portfolio. You'll work closely with ownership on budgeting, labor planning, and compliance, and you'll be accountable for crop performance and consistency across every site. What we need from you
- 5 to 10 years of experience in large commercial outdoor cannabis cultivation, ideally with light deprivation experience specifically
- A bachelor's degree in horticulture, plant science, agriculture, or a closely related field
- Fluent in both Spanish and English, spoken and written. Most of our field crew communicates primarily in Spanish, so this isn't optional
- Comfortable with computers and software. You'll be tracking metrics, managing schedules, and communicating across sites regularly through email and shared documents
- Proven leadership experience managing teams across more than one site or location, not just a single grow
- Strong understanding of California cannabis cultivation regulations and general compliance requirements (METRC experience required)
- A good driving record is required. You'll be issued a company vehicle for travel between sites, so a clean history matters
- Ability to work outdoors in all conditions and handle the physical demands of a working farm
What kind of person does well hereSomeone who can be out in the field at 6am checking irrigation lines at one site and then drive to another that afternoon to walk a crew lead through a labor issue or compliance deadline. Someone who leads by example, communicates clearly with a diverse crew, and doesn't need to be micromanaged to get results across multiple locations. If you've run a large outdoor operation before and understand the rhythm of a light dep season inside and out, we want to talk to you.Location and logisticsThe role is based across our four Central Coast properties, roughly between Buellton and Paso Robles. A company vehicle is provided for travel between sites.Compensation and benefits
- Company vehicle provided for site travel
- Paid winter vacation, in recognition of the seasonal nature of light dep cultivation work
