Overview
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Registered Nurse specializing in Infection Control, where your expertise will be pivotal in safeguarding patient health and maintaining the highest standards of infection prevention. In this vital role, you will lead efforts to monitor, evaluate, and implement infection control policies across diverse healthcare settings, ensuring compliance with all relevant health regulations and CDC guidelines. Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and update infection control policies and the annual infection control plan aligned with CDC, APIC, and AORN guidelines and CMS Conditions for Coverage (42 CFR §416.51)
- Conduct active surveillance, including post-operative surgical site infection tracking and follow-up
- Lead infection prevention initiatives by educating staff on aseptic technique, sterilization and high-level disinfection, safe injection practices, and disease prevention policies
- Oversee data collection and reporting on infection rates and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and present findings to the Governing Body and quality committee
- Review documentation to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with HIPAA and applicable health regulations
- Collaborate with surgeons, the Director of Nursing, and the perioperative team to implement infection control strategies tailored to the ambulatory surgery environment
- Lead investigations of infection clusters or exposure incidents, determining root causes and corrective actions
- Manage infection control audits and rounds, staff training at hire and annually, and continuous quality improvement projects
- Ensure compliance with Hawaii Department of Health reportable disease requirements and support state licensing, CMS, and accreditation surveys
Requirements
- Current, unencumbered Hawaii RN license
- Current BLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of ambulatory surgery (or perioperative) clinical experience as an RN
- Documented training in infection control (e.g., APIC/CBIC coursework or equivalent)
- Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills
- Authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
- Experience with infection control data management, documentation review, and surveillance systems
- Leadership experience training healthcare staff on infection prevention practices
- Experience preparing for or participating in CMS, state, or accreditation surveys
