STERLING FLOOR DESIGNS, Commack, NY
Construction Field Monitor (On the Road in NYC)
Ready to launch your construction management career with a powerhouse on Long Island? Sterling Floor Designs—a woman-owned, family-operated industry leader for over 45 years—is looking for a bright, motivated Construction Field Monitor to join our Commack team.
If you’re a recent grad in construction management, engineering, or the trades who wants more than a desk job—or a veteran whose military service gave you real-world experience managing people, logistics, and high-stakes environments—this is your chance to work directly with our senior Project Management team. You’ll gain a 360-degree view of how a high-volume flooring operation runs—from planning and scheduling through field execution and close-out.
The Sterling Edge
- Real Responsibility: You won’t be fetching coffee or filing papers. From day one, you’ll be coordinating active job sites, tracking budgets, and keeping crews and clients aligned across some of the most dynamic projects on Long Island and in NYC.
- Field-First Experience: Forget the cubicle. This role puts you on job sites daily—walking floors, reviewing punch lists, and solving real problems in real time alongside experienced project managers.
- Mentorship: You’ll work side-by-side with our senior PM team, getting the hands-on development and guidance you need to grow fast in a trade-focused environment.
What You’ll Master
- Site Coordination: Support planning, scheduling, and execution of flooring projects from kickoff through final walkthrough—keeping everything and everyone on track.
- Field Oversight: Walk job sites before installation to confirm readiness, oversee installers on-site, and conduct regular progress checks across Long Island and all five NYC boroughs.
- Quality Control: Complete punch list reviews, verify accuracy of finished work, and make sure every project meets the Sterling standard before close-out.
- Reporting & Systems: Update our ERP system with site milestones, coordinate progress reports with foremen, and keep senior management informed every step of the way.
- Client & Crew Relations: Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and suppliers—because relationships are how we’ve lasted 45 years.
What You Bring
- The Certification: Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (required—must be valid).
- The Wheels: A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation—you’ll be on the road daily covering Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. Sterling covers gas, tolls, and mileage so the road is never on your dime.
- The Background: A B.S. in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent hands-on trades experience that’s taught you what a classroom can’t. Military experience with a construction, engineering, or logistics background? We’d love to talk.
- The Skills: Strong organizational chops, the ability to read basic blueprints, and comfort juggling multiple active projects without dropping the ball.
- The Vibe: You’re a clear communicator, calm under pressure, and genuinely at home in an active construction environment. Discrepancies don’t stand a chance against you.
- The Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace; experience with project management or ERP software is a plus.
The Perks
- On the Road: Sterling covers gas, tolls, and mileage—what you spend getting to the job stays in your pocket.
