Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, energetic, and reliable Housekeeping Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining a clean, sanitized, and welcoming environment for everyone who steps foot in our facilities. This position supports all three of our organizational entities, with the primary focus and majority of time spent at our largest entity, the Academy.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes pride in their work, possesses excellent time-management skills, and naturally notices details—like a smudged window or a low stock of supplies—before being told.
Shift & Schedule (To add near the top, under Position Type)
- Schedule: Ideal shift is 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM, with the flexibility to cover a morning shift (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM) based on coverage needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Cleaning & Sanitizing: Execute daily cleaning routines across classrooms, offices, common areas, restrooms, and cafeterias, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene (especially at the Academy).
- Routine Facility Audits: Conduct regular walkthroughs to identify areas needing deep-cleaning, safety hazards (like wet floors), or immediate attention.
- Supply & Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of cleaning chemicals, paper products, and toiletries. Assist in organizing supply closets and prepping orders for restock.
- Seasonal & Event Prep: Predict and prepare for heavy-use seasons or special events. This includes deep-cleaning floors/carpets during breaks, setting up/tearing down for organizational events, and preparing facilities for high foot-traffic days.
- Waste Management: Regularly empty trash, recycling, and bio-hazard bins (where applicable), ensuring proper disposal and recycling practices across all entities.
- Laundry & Linens: Manage the washing, drying, and folding of rags, mops, uniforms, or specific Academy linens as required.
- Safety Compliance: Safely handle and dilute cleaning chemicals according to safety guidelines and ensure all cleaning equipment is well-maintained.
- Radio Communication & Response: Maintain clear and active communication via two-way radio to respond promptly to staff requests for cleanups, spills, or urgent maintenance needs in classrooms and common areas.
- Task Prioritization: Effectively manage and prioritize tasks on the fly, balancing daily routine cleaning duties with unexpected or high-priority requests that arise throughout the school day.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 1+ years of experience in commercial housekeeping, custodial work, or hotel environmental services is preferred but not required.
- Mindset: A true self-starter who shows initiative, works efficiently without constant supervision, and possesses a sharp eye for cleanliness.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods, and comfortably lift up to 30–40 lbs (trash bags, mop buckets, supply boxes).
- Communication: Ability to follow written or verbal checklists and communicate effectively with staff and students at the Academy.
- License/Transportation: Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between our 3 entities if needed.
- Communication & Focus: Excellent verbal communication skills to handle live radio calls from school staff. Must possess strong situational awareness and organizational skills to prioritize urgent requests over routine tasks when needed.
