Riemer Eye Center is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Scribe & Technician to join our growing team. This position plays an essential role in supporting our ophthalmologists and optometrists by providing high-quality patient care, accurate clinical documentation, and efficient workflow support.
The Ophthalmic Scribe & Technician will work directly with providers to ensure accurate patient histories, examination documentation, diagnostic testing, and patient education. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, dependable, and interested in building a career within the ophthalmology field.
This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide exceptional service while maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties:
- Work directly with ophthalmologists and optometrists during patient examinations.
- Accurately document provider findings, assessments, treatment plans, and medical decision-making in the EMR.
- Ensure medical records are complete, accurate, and compliant with documentation standards.
- Assist providers by anticipating documentation needs and maintaining efficient exam workflows.
- Review patient charts prior to appointments to assist providers with preparation.
- Enter orders, referrals, prescriptions, and follow-up instructions as directed by providers.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
- Welcome patients and provide a professional, compassionate, and comfortable experience throughout their visit.
- Obtain and document accurate patient medical histories, medications, allergies, and chief complaints.

- Pupillary evaluations
- Visual field testing
- Optical coherence tomography (OCT)
- Retinal imaging and photography
- Other diagnostic testing as directed by the provider
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained.
- Assist providers during patient examinations and procedures.
- Educate patients regarding testing procedures, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up instructions.
- Accurately document clinical findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and all company policies and procedures.
- Assist with patient flow to ensure timely and efficient clinic operations.
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous healthcare, medical assisting, ophthalmology, optometry, or clinical experience preferred.
- Ophthalmic Technician certification (COA, COT, or COMT) preferred but not required.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn specialized medical software.
- Previous medical scribe experience preferred.

Monday through Friday schedule. No evenings or weekends required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
