AGV Service Technician

JOB SUMMARY:
The AGV Service Technician is a field-based role responsible for supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining AGV, AMR, and automated material handling systems. This position plays a critical role in ensuring uptime, safety, and customer satisfaction while acting as the primary technical representative for Shoppa’s Material Handling at assigned customer sites. This role supports current and future AGV/AMR platforms including Linde/KION, Dematic, Big Joe, AS/RS interfaces, and mobile robotics systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Field Service & Technical Support

Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and corrective repairs on AGV and AMR systems

Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues on automated vehicles and material handling equipment

Diagnose fault codes, alarms, safety faults, and communication issues

Support AGV charging, navigation, docking, and safety systems

Interface with OEM technical support teams for advanced troubleshooting

Automation & system interaction

Support AGV systems operating within automated environments including conveyors and AS/RS interfaces

Verify proper system integration and operational handoff following service or repair activities

Assist with system validation, testing, and restart procedures
Customer Relationship Ownership

Serve as the primary on-site technical contact for assigned customers

Communicate system status, downtime impact, and corrective actions clearly and professionally

Build strong customer relationships through responsiveness, technical confidence, and follow-through

Identify service improvement, PM enhancement, and lifecycle support opportunities
Documentation & Job Costing

Accurately document service activity using work orders and service reports

Ensure all labor, parts, and expenses are properly attributed to the correct work order

Support margin tracking and job cost accuracy through detailed reporting
Safety & Process Compliance
-
Follow all company, customer, and OEM safety standards

Ensure compliance with internal service procedures and escalation protocols

Participate in ongoing training and process improvement initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
-
High school diploma or equivalent required
-
2+ years of AGV, AMR, automation, or related material handling service experience required

Exposure to automated warehouse or distribution environments
Technical Skills (Required)
-
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
-
Working knowledge of DC electrical systems (24V / 48V)

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings

Experience with AGV/AMR navigation concepts (magnetic tape, QR, laser, SLAM, or natural feature navigation)

Familiarity with PLC-controlled systems and industrial safety devices (E-stops, scanners, light curtains)

Comfortable using laptop-based diagnostic tools, OEM service software, and support portals

Ability to pull logs, fault histories, and support remote OEM troubleshooting sessions

Occasional domestic travel including air travel and overnight stays to customer or vendor sites

Extended periods of computer work, phone communication, and reviewing technical documentation
