LFC Systems is a fast-moving start-up focused on building the next generation of automated hot food vending machines. LFC will introduce our first product, a hot dog vending machine that separately cooks a hot dog, warms a bun, and delivers the assembled fresh product in a minute, to the market this fall. We expect LFC to grow rapidly as we scale to meet the exploding demand for automated fresh food vending machines. We are looking for a hands-on Vending Machine Mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting, building, modifying, and improving equipment while helping develop new prototype systems.
Position Summary
This role combines traditional vending machine service work with prototype assembly and technical documentation responsibilities. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable with electrical systems, and interested in contributing to product development in a fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities
Vending Machine Service & Repair
- Diagnose and repair vending machine mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
- Install, configure, and test new vending machines.
- Troubleshoot payment systems, dispensing mechanisms, refrigeration systems, and control electronics.
- Respond to service calls and maintain equipment reliability.
Prototype Development & Assembly
- Assemble and integrate modification or improvements from engineering drawings and specifications.
- Install mechanical, electrical, and electronic components.
- Assist with testing, evaluation, and improvement of prototype designs.
- Provide feedback to engineering and management teams regarding product performance and manufacturability.
Technical Documentation
- Create and maintain repair procedures and troubleshooting guides.
- Develop installation instructions and field service manuals.
- Document prototype revisions, assembly processes, and testing results.
- Photograph and record on video procedures for training and support purposes.
- Support continuous improvement of technical documentation.
Remote Technical Support & Customer Service
- Provide remote troubleshooting and repair support to customers via phone, email, photos, and live video calls.
- Analyze customer-submitted photos and videos to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and operational issues.
- Guide customers and field technicians through repair and maintenance procedures remotely.
- Assist with installation, setup, and commissioning of vending machines at customer locations.
- Document troubleshooting processes, repair outcomes, and recurring issues to improve service procedures.
- Occasionally travel to non-local installations to assist with repairs or equipment installation.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in vending machine repair, field service, industrial maintenance, electromechanical systems, or related technical work.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Strong written communication skills for creating technical procedures and guides.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with vending machines, kiosks, automated retail systems, or point-of-sale equipment.
- Experience with low-voltage electrical systems and electronics.
- Familiarity with refrigeration systems.
- Previous experience in a startup or product development environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and moving equipment.
- Ability to travel locally for installations and service calls and occasionally non-local travel to customer locations as needed.
