Join our team as a Farmhand/Groundskeeper and become an essential part of our agricultural environment! Applicant should have a positive attitude, be a self-starter and work with little supervision and be able to adapt to duty changes as required. The person needs to be responsible for the maintenance, safety, and aesthetic appeal of a property, and animal care. They ensure that the farm and estate grounds are clean, functional, and well-manicured, often operating heavy machinery and performing manual labor in varied weather conditions.
Core Responsibilities
- Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance: Mowing, edging, and trimming lawns; splitting wood, planting, spreading gravel, weed eating and pruning trees, shrubs, and flowers; spreading mulch; and applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
- Property & Facilities Upkeep: Clearing debris, trash, and leaves; maintaining walkways, roads, and parking lots; and pressure washing outdoor buildings and amenities.
- Farm-Specific Tasks: Feeding animals, cleaning stalls, coops and water troughs, and repairing fencing.
- Equipment & Mechanical Maintenance: Operating, repairing, and servicing farm equipment such as tractors, gators, mowers, chainsaws, blowers.
- Seasonal Duties: Snow removal, salting walkways, and preparing the property for different weather conditions.
- General Repair (Handyman): Fixing fences, gates, sheds, and, in some cases, assisting with minor building maintenance.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Physical Stamina & Strength: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects (often up to 50+ lbs), and work in all weather conditions.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Experience with operating and maintaining small engines and farm machinery (tractors, ATVs). check equipment, and report maintenance issues.
- Horticultural Knowledge: Basic understanding of plant care, soil types, and pest control.
- Independence: Ability to work with little supervision, self-motivate, and manage time effectively to complete tasks.
- Certifications: A valid driver's license is often required, with specific pesticide/herbicide licenses sometimes required.
Typical Work Environment
- Environment: Mostly outdoors, involving physical, repetitive labor.
- Hours: Often full-time, with potential for early mornings, weekends, and overtime during busy seasons.
