Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our educational team at Prospect Heights Middle as a Special Education Teacher. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students with disabilities. This full-time position requires a collaborative approach, effective communication skills, and a strong understanding of special education practices and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to ensure the successful integration of students with disabilities into the general education curriculum.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies and interventions as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, IEP goals, and other relevant documentation.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in both one-on-one and small group settings.
- Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and any concerns.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate and address the needs of students with disabilities.
- Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities within the school community.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field;
- Valid state certification in Special Education or willing to obtain.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to create engaging and adaptive lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance instruction and communication.
