Overview
Our Midwestern roots run deep. Founded in 1974, Lanoha Nurseries, Inc. is one of the largest family-owned and operated nursery, garden center, and landscape design and construction firms in the Midwest. With over 700 acres in nursery production, our team cultivates, maintains, and installs the largest selection of homegrown trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals throughout the metro. For more than 50 years, Lanoha has been an industry leader and a trusted name in our community.
That same commitment to quality extends to Lanoha Ironworks, our in-house custom metal fabrication shop. Ironworks builds the steel elements found across our landscapes and properties, including entrance monuments, gates, railings, pergolas, planters, fire pits, signage, truck beds, and equipment attachments. We are looking for a Lead Fabricator to run that shop. This is a role for a hands-on craftsman who can take an idea from concept to finished build, and a capable leader who can guide and develop the team.
Requirements
A great fabricator brings more than skill at the table. You bring judgment, range, and the kind of experience that turns a problem into a plan. We’re looking for someone who can do it all, lead a team while they do it, and keep every project moving. That includes:
Proven experience in custom metal fabrication, with the range to handle whatever a project calls for.
Strong MIG and TIG welding skills, and the confidence to work a variety of metals well.
A creative eye that can turn a rough idea into a finished, polished build.
The ability to create and read blueprints, and translate a design into a working plan.
Solid command of CNC tables and CAD software.
Sharp judgment in selecting the right material for the job, along with the knowledge of why it is the right call.
A keen eye for detail and a problem solver’s instinct when a build does not go to plan.
The ability to manage multiple projects at once, keeping each one on schedule even as new work comes in.
Real leadership experience, with the ability to run a team, communicate clearly, and bring people along, including comfortable conversations with executive leadership, whether reporting on project status or making the case for added crew when the workload calls for it.
Responsibilities
At Ironworks, no two projects look the same. One week it’s a set of custom entrance monuments, the next it’s railings, a pergola, or a one-off equipment attachment nobody’s built before. We need someone who can do it all and lead a shop that does it well.
Run the daily operations of the Ironworks shop and lead the fabrication team
Take projects from rough concept to finished build, designing custom pieces and producing the working blueprints to make them real
Fabricate, assemble, and finish custom metalwork: monuments, gates, railings, pergolas, planters, fire pits, signage, and more
Cut, bend, and weld a wide range of metals with MIG and TIG
Run the CNC plasma table and dial in clean, precise cuts
Source materials and consumables, and keep the shop stocked and running
Scope and estimate projects with an eye on both quality and cost
Set the bar for craftsmanship, mentoring fabricators and pushing the whole team’s work forward
What we offer
Compensation is based on your skill, experience, and proven craftsmanship, and reflects the value an experienced fabricator brings.
On-the-job training and the chance to keep growing your craft.
