Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote comfort and independence
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Support medical procedures by preparing patients and assisting healthcare professionals with tasks like catheter care, phlebotomy, and medication administration
- Maintain patient safety through proper manual handling techniques and safe lifting practices using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or patient transfer methods
- Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly to the nursing or medical team, ensuring timely intervention
- Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations by maintaining patient confidentiality and ensuring accurate medical documentation
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care tailored to each patient's needs
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring specialized dementia or memory care
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical records management
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for safe patient care
- Ability to perform basic life support (BLS) including CPR in emergency situations
- Experience working in various clinical environments such as ICU, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, or post-acute care settings is highly valued
- Strong caregiver communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members
- Physical stamina for heavy lifting and manual handling tasks necessary for patient transfer methods and safe lifting practices
