ZMF Headphones designs and handcrafts premium wooden headphones in small batches in Berwyn, IL. Every pair is built by hand with extreme attention to detail, combining fine woodworking with high-end audio engineering. The Role
We're hiring a Production Craftsperson to join our build team. You'll learn to sand, finish, and assemble premium wooden headphones by hand, working alongside experienced builders. This is an entry point with real room to grow. As your skills develop, so do your responsibilities and compensation. If you care about doing careful, quality work with your hands, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
- Hand-assemble headphone components to ZMF's quality standards
- Learn and rotate through multiple build stations over time
- Follow build specifications and quality-control checks carefully
- Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Work to a set production schedule in a structured shop environment
- Contribute to a small team where everyone pitches in
What We're Looking For
- Familiarity with woodworking and / or an understanding of audio is a plus — but not required; we train
- Good manual dexterity and a strong eye for detail
- Reliable and punctual, with consistent attendance
- Genuinely eager to learn and open to feedback
- Comfortable working to set hours, break times, and production standards
- A real interest in craftsmanship and quality
Physical Requirements
Production work at ZMF is physical and detail-intensive. You should be comfortable standing for extended periods, performing repetitive hand-tool and fine-motor work, and working in an environment with wood dust. ZMF rotates the most physically demanding tasks (such as hand-sanding) to reduce strain. Applicants should be able to lift up to 30lbs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation for this position will be evaluated based on skill development. There is a probationary period of 90-days at $20.00/hour to assess fit and grasp of the tasks. Post probationary period compensation will be elevated to $22 to start and then further check-points for increases with established skill development and competency are standard.
