Our practice is entering an exciting new chapter as Dr. Cruz transitions into ownership of an established optometry office in the Merced community. With new leadership comes a renewed focus on exceptional patient care, professionalism, teamwork, and creating a welcoming experience for every patient.
We are seeking motivated and dependable individuals who are interested in growing alongside the practice and becoming part of a collaborative, patient-focused team. Although this position is primarily centered on optical dispensing, team members will also have the opportunity to cross-train in front office responsibilities, exam technician support, and general back-office operations to help maintain efficient patient flow and overall office support.
As the practice continues to grow, this role has strong potential to transition into a full-time position for the right candidate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year experience in an optical or optometry office
- Experience with:
- Eyeglass dispensing and frame fitting
- Accurate optical measurements (PDs, seg heights, OC heights, etc.)
- Frame adjustments and minor repairs
- Contact lens insertion/removal training
- Lens recommendations and optical upgrades
- Knowledge of insurance verification and billing including:
- VSP
- EyeMed
- Medicaid/Medi-Cal
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Professional appearance and positive attitude
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Ability and willingness to cross-train in multiple office roles
Job duties:
- Assist patients in selecting eyeglass frames and lenses that meet their prescription needs and personal style preferences.
- Measure and verify pupillary distance (PD), frame fit, and other parameters to ensure optimal eyewear performance.
- Conduct laboratory tasks such as lens mounting, and quality checks to prepare eyewear for delivery.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including patient histories, prescriptions, and billing information using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems like Eyefinity EPM.
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care, contact lens handling, and eye health maintenance, including pediatrics and senior care considerations.
- Support retail sales efforts by promoting eyewear products, accessories, and lens options to maximize customer satisfaction.
- Follow all HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
- Strong understanding of optometry practices, medical terminology, and anatomy related to the eye.
- Experience with optical dispensing, laboratory procedures, and use of EMR systems such as Eyefinty EPM for medical records management and lens order submissions.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient information within a healthcare setting.
- Ability to interpret prescriptions accurately and communicate technical information clearly to patients.
- Familiarity with medical billing, coding, and clinic experience related to optometry services.
- Knowledge of insurances VSP, EyeMed, Medicaid
- Retail management skills including retail math for inventory control and sales tracking.
- Excellent customer service skills with a proactive approach to sales in a retail environment focused on medical products.
