Who We Are
Utah Rec Sports is a nonprofit youth sports league with six locations across Utah County. Our motto, is "Be the Good in Sports". We are working to change the environment of youth sports by emphasizing and rewarding leadership and sportsmanship as athletes compete, learn, and grow in sport. We run five sports, mostly year round, for athletes ages 3-18.
Job Overview
We are seeking a dependable, organized, and motivated Referee Manager to oversee referee operations. This position plays a vital role in ensuring games are staffed with qualified officials and that referees receive ongoing support and training throughout the season.
We run three seasons a year (August-May). The ideal candidate can commit to working all three seasons in our yearly calendar. We are looking to hire immediately.
Qualifications
- High school graduate (or equivalent) required.
- Background in athletics, coaching, officiating, or youth sports.
- Strong working knowledge of the rules of sports: Mainly Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer and Flag Football
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and provide constructive feedback.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout Utah County.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, schedule, and staff referees for weekly games for the different locations throughout Utah County
- Ensure all games are adequately staffed with qualified officials. Including staffing subs for each sport.
- Strong knowledge of sports rules interpretation and enforcement: specifically basketball, volleyball, soccer and flag football.
- Travel regularly to league locations to observe, mentor, and train referees in skills for reffing as well as maintaining the focus of the league's vision.
- Monitor and evaluate referee performance during games, and provide coaching and constructive feedback to improve consistency, professionalism, and high officiating standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for referee-related questions and concerns.
- Communicate weekly schedules, updates, and expectations to officiating staff.
- Help maintain a positive, safe, and sportsmanlike environment for players, coaches, referees, and families.
- Prior experience working with children or youth sports programs is highly desirable
- Assist with referee onboarding and ongoing development as needed.
Schedule
- Three, six-week seasons from August-May
- Flexible work from home weekday hours for scheduling, communication, and administrative responsibilities.
- Required availability on Saturday mornings-afternoons during the league season. Time requirement varies depending on season.
- Regular travel between six league locations in Utah County.Compensation & Benefits
