Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves assisting clients with daily living activities, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The DSP will work closely with clients to enhance their quality of life through personalized care and support.
Duties
- Provide assistance with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, and grooming.
- Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary needs and preferences.
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor clients for any side effects or changes in condition.
- Assist clients in social activities and community engagement to promote socialization and inclusion.
- Maintain a clean and organized living space for clients, ensuring a safe environment.
- Monitor vital signs and report any significant changes to healthcare professionals.
- Document client progress and communicate effectively with family members, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's specific needs.
Requirements
- Previous experience in home care, nursing homes, or direct support roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of meal preparation techniques and dietary considerations is beneficial.
- Familiarity with CPR certification and medication administration protocols is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
- Ability to perform basic cleaning tasks to maintain a hygienic living environment for clients.
- Willingness to work evenings or nights, as well as some weekends.
- Compassionate nature with a commitment to enhancing the well-being of individuals with disabilities or special needs.
- Must be able to pass background checks as required by state regulations.
