JOB TITLE: Laundry Attendant
The Laundry Attendant is responsible for the overall operation of the hotel laundry facility, ensuring an adequate supply of clean, brand-standard linen and terry is available to meet the daily needs of the hotel. This position maintains linen inventory levels, minimizes discards, and keeps the laundry room clean, organized, and operating safely.
Laundry Operations
- Pull and collect dirty linen directly from guest room floors and housekeeping carts and transport it to the laundry room.
- Receive dirty linen and terry from housekeeping staff and guest rooms.
- Sort linen and terry by type, and separate stained or damaged items from regular loads for reclamation.
- Wash laundry following proper loading procedures and manufacturer/brand guidelines.
- Dry laundry using proper settings to avoid over-drying and damaging linen.
- Fold and deliver clean linen to linen closets and shelving, organized neatly by type.
- Maintain proper resting periods for linen between cycles.
Inventory & Supply Management
- Maintain linen inventory by keeping discards to a minimum and following company laundry procedures.
- Assist in the organization and counting of linen inventories.
- Keep accurate records of discarded linen.
- Ensure an adequate supply of clean linen is available at all times to meet hotel demand.
- Maintain adequate chemical stock for housekeeping and laundry operations.
Cleanliness, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the laundry room, including sweeping and mopping floors regularly.
- Maintain all laundry equipment in safe, clean working condition and report repair needs to the Supervisor.
- Take responsibility for all chemicals and equipment assigned to this position.
- Follow all safety, OSHA, and applicable state and local regulations.
- Follow all Bloodborne Pathogens regulations and standard precautions.
- Participate in the promotion of safety and security within assigned work areas.
Teamwork & Guest Service
- Bring all found guest items immediately to the General Manager Office.
- Support the work efforts of other housekeeping associates as directed.
- Represent the hotel with professionalism and follow appropriate standards of conduct, hygiene, and appearance.
- Make recommendations to the Supervisor regarding improved methods and procedures to positively impact guest and associate satisfaction.
- Attend all required department and other meetings as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or management.
Minimum Education
Minimum Experience
- Prior housekeeping or laundry experience preferred.
- General knowledge of cleaning chemicals and related safety practices preferred.
Minimum Skill Requirements
- Ability to understand and comprehend English preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Prolonged periods of standing, carrying, and walking, primarily within the confines of the laundry room.
- Firm and simple grasping required for all aspects of this position.
- Pushing and pulling required for approximately 75% of the time, including wheeled linen carts.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull loads weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Bending and/or stooping up to 60% of the time while performing essential tasks.
- Twisting torso for approximately 75% of the time.
- Climbing stairs approximately 20% of the time.
- Reaching above shoulder level less than 5% of the time.
- Squatting required approximately 5% of the time.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with frequent task interruptions while providing service to internal and external customers.
- Must be flexible with hours and days worked, including weekends and holidays as needed.
