Job Overview
The Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for the leadership and supervision of the maintenance department across three production shifts. This position is accountable for maintaining production equipment, facility systems, building and grounds to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
The Maintenance Coordinator oversees maintenance planning, repairs, preventive maintenance programs, spare parts inventory, contractor coordination, employee development, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position works closely with Production, Engineering, Safety, and other departments to support plant objectives related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
This position is expected to provide support outside normal working hours for significant equipment failures, production downtime, and other critical operational issues. Weekend work, including Saturdays, may be required to support major maintenance activities, equipment installations, facility projects, and preventive maintenance efforts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintenance Leadership
- Supervise, coach, and develop Maintenance Technicians across all shifts.
- Establish daily maintenance priorities to support production requirements.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and address performance concerns as needed.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Provide off-shift support and guidance during significant equipment failures or operational disruptions.
Equipment Reliability & Maintenance
- Manage corrective and preventive maintenance activities for production equipment, facility systems, and infrastructure.
- Coordinate troubleshooting and repairs involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotic, and automated systems.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement actions to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
- Ensure maintenance work orders and records are completed accurately and on time.
- Support planned weekend maintenance activities as needed to minimize production interruptions.
Planning, Purchasing & Inventory Control
- Maintain and improve spare parts inventory and storeroom organization.
- Purchase maintenance supplies, repair parts, and equipment in accordance with company procedures.
- Manage maintenance expenses and support annual budget planning.
- Coordinate maintenance services and support from outside contractors and vendors.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Enforce safe work practices, including lockout/tagout and contractor safety requirements.
- Support safety initiatives by identifying hazards and ensuring equipment is designed, installed, maintained, and operated safely.
Continuous Improvement & Projects
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, safety, and maintenance processes.
- Support equipment installations, facility upgrades, and capital improvement projects in coordination with Engineering and Operations.
- Research and recommend new technologies and equipment improvements.
Communication & Support
- Partner with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety teams to resolve equipment-related issues.
- Provide regular updates regarding maintenance performance, equipment concerns, and project status.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
- Working knowledge of industrial electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotic, and automated systems.
- Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance principles.
- Understanding of OSHA requirements and industrial safety practices.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and project coordination skills.
- Experience managing maintenance priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and maintenance management systems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to equipment issues and operational demands outside normal working hours.
Education & Experience
- Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent maintenance experience.
- Five years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Two years of leadership, supervisory, or maintenance coordination experience.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and equipment troubleshooting.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with robotics, automation, PLC programming, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience supporting capital equipment installations and facility improvement projects.
