Antique & Vintage Art Framer
Gillian Bryce Gallery is looking for a skilled, detail-oriented Antique & Vintage Art Framer to join our team. This position focuses on working with antique and vintage frames and preparing artwork for presentation, sale, and installation. This is not a traditional custom framing position.
The ideal candidate has excellent hands-on skills, a strong eye for detail, and an appreciation for antique materials, craftsmanship, and artwork. Experience working with older frames, artwork, or in a gallery, framing, conservation, or restoration environment is highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Fit artwork into antique and vintage frames
- Assess frames and determine the appropriate way to safely fit and secure artwork
- Make minor repairs, adjustments, and modifications to existing frames when needed
- Cut and install backing, matting, liners, spacers, and other framing components
- Properly secure artwork without damaging the work or frame
- Handle paintings, works on paper, prints, and other artwork with care
- Install and replace glass and acrylic as appropriate
- Clean and prepare antique and vintage frames for presentation
- Make minor cosmetic improvements to frames while preserving their original character
- Identify and address issues such as loose joints, damaged corners, worn backing, and hardware
- Prepare artwork for photography, shipping, installation, and sale
- Maintain an organized and clean framing/work area
- Work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship
- Collaborate with gallery staff on artwork preparation and installation needs
Ideal Candidate
- Experienced with framing, woodworking, restoration, or similar hands-on work
- Comfortable working with antique and vintage materials
- Has excellent attention to detail and a careful, methodical approach
- Understands that antique frames often require creative solutions rather than standardized framing methods
- Comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools
- Able to work independently and problem-solve
- Has good judgment when working with valuable and sometimes fragile artwork
- Takes pride in producing clean, professional results
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple projects
- An appreciation for art, antiques, and design is a strong plus
Important
This position is not primarily custom framing. We are looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of working with existing antique and vintage frames, including adapting, repairing, fitting, and preparing them for artwork.
Experience with antique frames is preferred, but we are willing to consider someone with strong framing, woodworking, restoration, or other relevant hands-on experience who has the right eye and skill set.

Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
Pay: $24.25 - $29.20 per hour
