Job Title: Library Associate I
Position Overview: Work involves providing library services to the public. Duties are customer service, circulation and reference work, collection work such as shelving returned materials, and light cleaning and tidying. Hours include alternate Saturdays.
Hours and Pay: 20 hours a week; $16.85 an hour. Current hours needed are daytime hours but evening availability will also be considered. The library is open 9am-7pm weekdays and 10am-4pm on Saturdays.
Key Responsibilities/Functions:
· Provide customer service to the public while working at the library’s Circulation, Children’s, and Information Desks.
· Monitor public use of library and remind patrons of library rules.
· Tidy up library space including putting toys away in the Children's Room, wiping down tables, and pushing in chairs
· Check-in and reshelve returned materials, assist with collection maintenance as directed.
· Instruct patrons in the use of library resources, including library catalog and website, databases, and finding books in the library.
· May provide basic instruction to library patrons in the use of technology such as formatting documents or navigating to a website.
· Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
· Bachelor Degree in related area or equivalent experience
· Excellent customer service skills
· Aptitude with technology
· Attention to detail
· Effective verbal and written communication
· Ability to work with others as well as work independently
Desirable:
· Public library experience
· Spanish language skills
