Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intumescent Paint Applicator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for applying specialized fire-resistant coatings—known as intumescent paints—on various structural surfaces to enhance fire safety and compliance. Your expertise will help protect buildings and their occupants by ensuring high-quality application standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, from commercial buildings to residential renovations, in a fast-paced environment that values precision, safety, and craftsmanship.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces to ensure optimal adhesion of intumescent paint.
- Troubleshoot the equipment to have minimal down time.
- Keep up maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
- Apply intumescent coatings using hand tools, spray equipment (including airless sprayers), and conventional spray methods while maintaining consistent coverage.
- Follow all safety regulations diligently, including the use of respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), to ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with project managers and other tradespeople to interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings related to fireproofing specifications.
- Maintain a clean work area, document progress through detailed reports, and ensure all work meets quality standards and project deadlines.
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction painting, industrial painting, or renovation projects with a focus on surface preparation and coating application.
- Knowledge of construction site safety regulations, including proper use of respiratory protection and adherence to OSHA standards.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, scaffolding, ladders, and spray equipment such as airless paint sprayers.
- Familiarity with construction estimating processes and basic math skills for measuring and mixing paints accurately.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and interpret color schemes for precise application.
- Prior experience with residential or commercial painting projects involving surface prep like plastering, caulking, stucco work, or masonry is highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent application technique for smooth application texture.
- Construction site experience is preferred.
- A painting background is a plus but understand that Intumescent paint is not like paint and has different application requirements and follows specific UL designs that will be inspected by a 3rd party.
