Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medication Technician to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will assist in administering medications, monitoring patient health, and supporting overall care for residents or patients across various care settings. Your expertise will help ensure safe, accurate medication management and contribute to the well-being of individuals with diverse needs, including seniors, those with disabilities, or individuals requiring specialized dementia or hospice care. Duties
- Administer prescribed medications accurately to residents or patients following all safety protocols and medical guidelines.
- Assist with medication setup, including preparing doses, measuring liquids, and managing medication supplies using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Monitor vital signs regularly—such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration—and document findings precisely in medical records.
- Support patient care activities by assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, mobility, and nutrition support like tube feeding when necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive and compliant medical documentation in accordance with HIPAA regulations and facility policies.
- Collaborate closely with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Observe and report any changes in patient condition or behavior that may indicate health issues such as dementia progression or adverse medication reactions.
- Assist with specialized care needs including catheter care, Alzheimer’s/dementia/memory care, hospice support, and working with individuals with developmental disabilities or disabilities.
- Ensure the safe handling of medications and supplies while adhering to all safety standards related to infection control and patient confidentiality.
- Participate in ongoing training on medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and emergency procedures to stay current with best practices.
Skills
- Proven experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments.
- Strong knowledge of medication administration procedures and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation and record-keeping.
- Experience providing senior care—including memory care, Alzheimer’s/dementia support—and working with people with disabilities or developmental challenges.
- Knowledge of vital signs measurement, tube feeding procedures, catheter care, and anatomy/physiology fundamentals.
- Ability to work effectively within a team of healthcare professionals while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
- Excellent caregiving skills combined with patience, empathy, and strong communication abilities.
- Capable of managing multiple responsibilities efficiently in fast-paced environments like acute care settings or community-based services.
- Basic understanding of medical records management and familiarity with home & community care practices.
