Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Shop Foreman / Lead Carpenter to lead a custom woodworking shop crafting signage, décor, architectural finishes, and millwork for specialty retail and hospitality clients. The ideal candidate blends master-level woodworking skill experience with excellent organizational abilities to schedule workflow and manage personnel. Relevant industries of retail, hospitality, and commercial spaces preferred.
- Production Management: Oversee the production lifecycle of in-house build projects and daily fabrication operations.
- Team Leadership: Manage shop staff to optimize efficiency, enforce quality control, and ensure a safe, organized facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Management: Prioritize, schedule, and assign daily tasks to the in-house team of fabricators to ensure on-time delivery of custom projects. Responsible for workflow management that optimizes efficiencies and delivers on-time including daily accurate reporting of production results.
- Hands-On Fabrication: Participate in the manufacturing process, working along side the team.
- Quality Control: Inspect all pieces for accuracy, ensuring they meet high quality standards and match approved shop drawings.
- Shop Drawings Management: Translate shop drawings and other build-related documents into actionable production steps for the team.
- Engineering & Design: Possess a thorough understanding of fabrication details and engineering for the class of products the company produces and is able to participate in problem-solving as needed.
- Team Collaboration: The DLE Operations team is your primary stakeholder. Close coordination and cooperation with the Purchasing and Project Management teams is essential during the lifecycle of projects.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Train, mentor, and evaluate staff needs and workflow. Foster a collaborative work environment that prioritizes safety, craftsmanship, and a positive work environment.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce CAL/OSHA regulations and shop safety protocols.
- Inventory & Maintenance: Monitor and inventory material levels and consumables. Ensure proper maintenance of all shop machinery. Maintain an organized, clean shop space.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years of hands-on custom woodworking or architectural millwork experience, with at least 5+ years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
- Technical Knowledge: Expert proficiency with all standard woodworking machinery, hand tools, and assembly methods. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and CNC operation is required.
- Local Compliance: Strong working knowledge of South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) finishing and VOC regulations.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to motivate a small team, resolve conflicts, and maintain high morale in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical Requirements: This is a physically active role. The ability to stand for long periods, operate machinery, and lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs is required.
Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
