Under the direction of the head gymnastics coach, serves as a motivational figure who assists in organizing the Gymnastics team program to help build team cohesinesness and instruct gymnastics participants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the head coach with instructing students in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
- Assesses gymnast’s skills, monitors participants during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
- Assists with strategy to conduct a successful gymnastics meet.
- Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; complete related reports as required.
- Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators.
- Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Perform similar and related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (required):
- Strong administrative, organizational, and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of gymnastics.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Safety Training for Gymnastics Coaches, including the ability to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight. Must have the physical ability to perform coach’s safety training.
- Some experience of coaching gymnastics preferred.
