Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Field-Based Systems Technician to join our growing team. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and support of fire alarm, security, surveillance, access control, networking, telecommunications, and low-voltage systems across commercial, industrial, institutional, and critical infrastructure environments.
This is a hands-on field position and is not remote or office-based. The successful candidate will regularly work on client sites, perform system installations, inspections, testing, commissioning activities, and interact directly with customers and project stakeholders.
Weekly travel to Abilene, Texas is required, with occasional travel to other locations throughout Texas based on project needs.
Candidates residing in or near Abilene are strongly preferred.
Candidates with experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, structured cabling, network infrastructure, and critical systems environments are highly desired.
Responsibilities
- Install, service, inspect, test, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and manufacturer requirements.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, intercom, and security systems.
- Perform system commissioning, testing, and validation to ensure proper operation and compliance with project requirements.
- Install and support structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic infrastructure.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to networking, low-voltage cabling, telecommunications equipment, sensors, and integrated life safety systems.
- Conduct site surveys and assist in developing customized fire, security, and technology solutions.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and industry-standard installation practices.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and emergency service calls.
- Maintain detailed service records, inspection reports, installation documentation, and project reports.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, inspectors, and internal team members to ensure successful project execution.
- Remain current on industry technologies, NFPA standards, fire codes, networking technologies, security trends, and best practices.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior technicians as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Experience installing, servicing, inspecting, or maintaining fire alarm, security, surveillance, telecommunications, networking, or low-voltage systems.
- Working knowledge of computer hardware, IP networking, and structured cabling.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and system schematics.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and electronic testing equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in the field.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to travel throughout Abilene and surrounding Texas service areas.
- Ability to pass applicable background screenings required for customer facilities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour
