JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Purpose of this position
The purpose of this position is to follow facility policies and procedures to implement medication order; to administer medications in an accurate and timely manner.
Qualifications
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent
License or Certification: Certified in Texas as a medication aide or completed RN Delegation for medication administration
Experience: One year experience in a medical setting preferred
Delegation of authority
Authority is delegated to the individual in this position to:
· Follow established facility policies and procedures to administer medications to residents in accordance with physician’s orders.
· Provide emergency care to resident when necessary.
· Requisition adequate medications and supplies to administer mediations in a timely manner.
· Participate in supervision of care provided to residents.
This position reports to: Resident Care Supervisor
Medication Attendant Performance Standards
1. Follow established standards to implement facility policies and procedures related to medication administration.
2. Interpret existing policies and procedures related to medication administration to nursing assistants, residents, and families.
3. Obtain report from nurse being relieved and record sufficient information related to medication administration to implement accurate medication administration.
4. Administer and document medications to residents in an accurate, timely manner according to physician orders.
5. Monitor residents for effectiveness of drug therapy and occurrence of adverse effects. Notify charge nurse of problems.
6. Performs nurse aide functions when not administering medications.
7. Responsible for the distribution and documentation of resident snacks and supplements.
8. Attend staff meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, rehabilitation meetings, in-service classes and committee meetings as assigned.
9. Assume responsibility for compliance with federal, State and local regulations within the assigned unit.
10. Perform comprehensive assessment of residents as assigned.
11. Promptly report changes in residents’ conditions to the charge nurse and take follow-up action as necessary.
12. Follow facility discharge /transfer procedures related to medication transfer providers.
13. Respond to residents’ call for assistance promptly.
14. Verify accuracy of narcotic count, check emergency kit and exchange keys.
15. Order, receive and store medications accurately and appropriately.
16. Document resident progress notes as required.
17. Administer and document medications to residents in an accurate, timely manner according to physician orders.
18. Order, receive and store medications accurately and appropriately. Maintains neat and orderly medication room.
19. Maintains a homelike atmosphere. Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors including housekeeping duties as assigned.
20. Assists with resident activity programs as assigned.
21. Assist with serving meals and dining room duties as instructed. Escorts residents to and from dining room while encouraging residents to find their own way.
22. Demonstrates knowledge of infection control via proper handling of equipment, soiled linen, bedpans, urinals, and adequate hand washing.
23. Receives report from the previous shift and medication assistant.
Reads the shift-to-shift report and shower schedule for information and changes before coming on shift. Documents in the shift-to-shift report book and ADL binder before going off shift.
24. Consistently work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies and ancillary service providers.
25. Observe all facility policies and procedures.
26. Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.
27. Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
28. Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
