The College of Allied Health Sciences invites applications for the position of Department Chair, Surgical Technology Program. We seek a dynamic, student-centered academic leader who is committed to excellence in teaching, curriculum development, faculty mentoring, student success, and program assessment. The successful candidate will provide leadership for an accredited Surgical Technology program and collaborate with faculty and administrators to prepare highly competent entry-level surgical technologists.
Position Summary
The Department Chair provides academic, administrative, and operational leadership for the Surgical Technology Program. The Chair is responsible for ensuring program quality, regulatory compliance, faculty development, curriculum oversight, student achievement, and continuous program improvement consistent with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
Essential Responsibilities
· Provide leadership for all aspects of the Surgical Technology Program.
· Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate full-time and adjunct faculty.
· Ensure curriculum is current, evidence-based, and aligned with accreditation and industry standards.
· Monitor student retention, graduation, certification examination success, and job placement outcomes.
· Coordinate classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical education experiences.
· Develop class schedules and faculty teaching assignments.
· Foster strong partnerships with hospitals and clinical affiliates.
· Lead program assessment, outcomes evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
· Prepare accreditation reports and support programmatic and institutional accreditation activities.
· Maintain compliance with institutional policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
· Manage departmental equipment and instructional resources.
· Participate in institutional committees, strategic planning, and faculty governance.
· Promote student engagement, professional development, and career readiness.
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Surgical Technology or a related healthcare discipline; Master's degree preferred.
· Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
· Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience as a practicing surgical technologist.
· Minimum of FOUR (4) years of recent teaching experience in Surgical Technology in higher education in USA
· Previous supervisory, administrative, or leadership experience in higher education preferred.
· Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, student learning outcomes assessment, and accreditation processes.
· Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
