Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Van Monitor/Driver to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of children, seniors. Duties
- Safely transport children to and from the center.
- Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections.
- Ensure proper child restraint use.
- Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations to ensure passenger safety at all times
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate driving techniques and emergency response procedures such as emergency stops or vehicle evacuation protocols
- Maintain clear communication with dispatchers, passengers, and team members using effective verbal skills in English or multilingual options when applicable
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, mechanical condition, and cleanliness before each shift
- Support behavior management and active supervision policies.
- Provide first aid or CPR when necessary and follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents.
- Assist with filed trips and special events.
Required
- Valid New Mexico driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass a background check
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Preferred
- Experience transporting young children
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Knowledge of child passenger safety
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience in bus driving or commercial driving preferred
- Knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and transportation safety regulations including state and local laws governing commercial driving
- Experience working with children, seniors, or individuals requiring special assistance such as wheelchair support or childcare services
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when needed for loading/unloading equipment or assisting passengers
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicle operation for basic troubleshooting and maintenance awareness
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities
- Familiarity with school policy knowledge, student behavior management, and teaching techniques is advantageous
- Certification in first aid, CPR, and emergency response procedures for transportation highly desirable
- Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes while maintaining focus on passenger safety and behavior management
