Resources for Seniors, Inc. is seeking a compassionate and resourceful Information & Referral Consultation Specialist / Options Counselor to assist older adults, adults with disabilities and caregivers throughout Wake County. This position location will be at the Main Office in Raleigh, NC and will provide Information & Referral services, Case Assistance, Options Counseling, advocacy, community outreach, and public education, helping individuals navigate complex situations and make informed decisions about their care and well-being.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Respond to inquiries by phone, email, walk-in visits, and community contacts.
- Assess client needs and identify appropriate resources and services.
- Research and verify available community programs and support.
- Explain eligibility requirements, application procedures, and service options.
- Complete program intakes and maintain accurate client records.
- Provide follow-up to determine whether needs have been successfully addressed.
- Advocate for older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers.
- Provide person-centered Case Assistance and Options Counseling services to older adults, adults with disabilities, caregivers, and families.
- Participate in the Resources for Seniors Speakers Bureau.
- Deliver presentations and educational programs to community groups and professionals.
- Represent the agency at health fairs, conferences, outreach events, and community programs.
- Assist with resource database maintenance, seasonal programs, and special projects.
The qualified candidate would meet the criteria listed below:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Gerontology, Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in case management, care coordination, counseling, aging services, disability services, human services, or a related field.
- Experience working with older adults, adults with disabilities, caregivers, or other vulnerable populations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent listening, assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, databases, internet research, and electronic documentation systems.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license and reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout Wake County.
- SHIIP Volunteer Certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Options Counseling Certification strongly preferred
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
