About the Role
We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and experienced Adaptive Sports Coach to join our team. In this role, you will lead and support inclusive sports and workouts designed to empower individuals of all abilities. You will create a safe, positive, and encouraging environment where athletes can build confidence, learn new skills, and foster community connections. You will also be responsible for redirecting behavior and managing clients with diverse behavioral needs. Candidates must have experience with positive behavior support and safe de-escalation techniques, including the ability to confidently handle and de-escalate instances of physical aggression or high-intensity behaviors if they arise. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a hands-on environment, encouraging participants through exercise routines while providing personalized support with mobility and daily care needs when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support participants during adaptive gym and fitness activities.
- Assist with cardio, resistance training, stretching, walking, and recreational exercises.
- Provide encouragement and physical assistance during activities and mobility tasks.
- Support personal care needs, including toileting, changing, and hygiene assistance as needed.
- Monitor participant safety, comfort, and well-being throughout activities.
- Use positive behavior support strategies to manage maladaptive behaviors appropriately and professionally.
- Maintain accurate documentation regarding participant progress and support provided.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Assist with transportation support when required.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bilingual in English and Spanish or ASL preferred
- Previous experience in ABA, DSP, caregiving, adaptive coaching, behavioral support, or related support roles preferred.
- Experience working with individuals who display maladaptive behaviors preferred.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable assisting with personal care, toileting, and hygiene needs.
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to lift and assist participants with mobility and transfer support (up to 50 lbs).
- Reliable, empathetic, team-oriented, and dependable.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
Work Environment
Active indoor gym and recreational facility.
Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and hands-on participant engagement.
Supportive team environment with onsite supervision and training.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
