Position Description:
The Business Development Specialist reports to the Business Development Manager and supports the firm's marketing and business development efforts across practice groups. This role is responsible for research, proposal support, client intelligence, and matter tracking, and serves as an important operational link between BD strategy and day-to-day execution.
Responsibilities:
- RFPs/Proposals: Support the preparation of pitches, proposals, RFPs, and capability statements for practice groups and individual attorneys, including research, drafting, editing, and production coordination.
- Client and Market Research: Conduct research on prospective clients, target industries, and competitor positioning to support BD targeting and pitch preparation.
- Expertise Management/Tracking: Maintain and update the firm's experience database, credential sheets, practice group descriptions, and attorney bios. Ensure accuracy and consistency of matter and client information across all BD materials.
- Directories/Rankings: Support the BD Manager in the preparation of directory and ranking submissions, including gathering data, drafting content, and tracking deadlines.
- Client List Management and Engagement: Work collaboratively with attorneys and the Communications team to maintain targeted, well-segmented client and prospect lists. Monitor engagement activity and flag outreach trends and opportunities that can inform pitch strategy and attorney BD planning.
- Client Meeting Preparation: Assist with preparation for client meetings and attorney BD sessions, including background briefs, talking points, and follow-up materials.
- Industry Monitoring: Monitor news and industry developments relevant to the firm's key client sectors — advertising, marketing, media, and entertainment — and distribute timely intelligence to relevant attorneys and practice groups.
- AI Tools and Collateral Optimization: Use AI tools to improve the speed and quality of day-to-day BD work, including proposal drafting, research synthesis, competitive briefing, and experience database updates. Help identify where AI can reduce manual effort in collateral production and contribute to documenting those processes, so the team applies them consistently.
- Coordination: Coordinate with the BD Coordinator on administrative production tasks for proposals, pitches, and experience materials.
- Special Projects: Support the BD Managers and CMBDO with special projects, reporting, and research as needed.
