Pathways to Practice Network Inc is a nonprofit doula network expanding access to culturally competent, community-based birth support through Medi-Cal and commercial insurance. Our mission is to ensure every family has access to high-quality doula care—regardless of income.
We provide the infrastructure so doulas can focus on care: client referrals, billing, compliance, and administrative support are all handled by our team.
Position Overview
We are seeking compassionate and reliable doulas/support partner to join our growing network as independent contractors. Doulas provide prenatal, labor, and postpartum support to clients enrolled through insurance-covered programs.
This role offers consistent referrals, flexible scheduling, and the opportunity to serve diverse communities across California.
Compensation
Compensation is provided on a per-service basis and varies based on experience, service type, and payer reimbursement.
- Competitive per-visit rates for prenatal and postpartum care
- Enhanced compensation for birth support and extended visits
- Performance-based incentives and completion bonuses available
Typical earning potential: Doulas working full care cases can earn approximately $1,000+ per client, depending on services provided and experience level.
Note: This is a per-service independent contractor compensation model. Rates are subject to adjustment based on program requirements and payer reimbursement.

Free Training Includes
- Doula documentation & Medi-Cal compliance

No prior insurance billing experience required — we train you.
Responsibilities
- Provide prenatal, labor, and postpartum support to clients
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation
- Communicate effectively with clients and care team
- Adhere to program and compliance guidelines
- Attend births as scheduled/on-call
Qualifications
- Willingness to complete training to become certified upon hire
- Certified doula OR currently in training (training support provided)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable transportation
- Willingness to serve diverse communities
- Commitment to client-centered, trauma-informed care
Work Structure
- Independent contractor (1099)
- Flexible schedule based on your availability
- Non-exclusive (you may maintain private clients or other work)
- Field-based (client homes, hospitals, birth centers)
