Position Summary
Master Paving Engineering is seeking a qualified Professional Surveyor & Mapper / Surveyor to support our growing civil construction operations. This role will be responsible for overseeing survey work related to utilities, paving, drainage, earthwork, concrete, public works, and as-built documentation.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with construction surveying, utility as-builts, field crew coordination, CAD review, and agency requirements such as Miami-Dade WASD, municipalities, FDOT, DERM, and public works standards.
This position requires someone who can manage field accuracy, review survey deliverables, coordinate with party chief, and help build a reliable internal surveying department.
Key Responsibilities
Surveying & Field Oversight
- Oversee construction layout, staking, elevations, offsets, grades, and utility locations.
- Coordinate daily survey needs
- Review field notes, sketches, cut sheets, benchmarks, control points, and layout requests.
- Confirm survey work is performed accurately and according to project plans and specifications.
- Support field crews with layout for water, sewer, drainage, paving, curb, sidewalk, structures, and earthwork.
- Verify elevations, inverts, rim grades, slopes, offsets, and tie-in locations before critical work is installed.
As-Builts & Agency Submittals
- Oversee preparation and review of utility as-builts, record drawings, and survey certifications.
- Ensure as-builts meet requirements for agencies such as MDWASD, municipalities, FDOT, DERM, and engineers of record.
- Review CAD files, redlines, survey data, and markups before submittal.
- Coordinate comment responses for agency redlines and resubmittals.
- Confirm final as-built information matches actual field conditions.
- Sign and seal survey documents when required and appropriate.
Department Management
- Manage survey crew priorities and daily workload.
- Train and coach survey crew members, rodmen, instrument operators, and drafting support.
- Create accountability for field documentation, daily uploads, photos, redlines, and survey records.
- Coordinate with company leadership to improve survey production, accuracy, and turnaround time..
Required Qualifications
- Active Florida Professional Surveyor & Mapper license required.
- Experience in construction surveying, utility as-builts, layout, and civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of elevations, benchmarks, control, GPS, total stations, and construction staking.
- Ability to read and interpret civil plans, profiles, details, surveys, plats, and agency comments.
- Experience with water, sewer, drainage, paving, earthwork, curb, sidewalk, and public works projects.
- Strong knowledge of CAD-based survey deliverables.
- Ability to review survey and drafting work for accuracy before submittal.
- Strong communication skills with field crews, PMs, engineers, inspectors, and agencies.
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple active projects at once.
Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
