Position Summary
The Assistant Food & Beverage Manager supports the daily operation of Backyard Miami’s Café, pool, beach, bar, room service, and event services. This position is responsible for supervising the team on the floor, maintaining service standards, resolving guest concerns, and ensuring that all areas operate efficiently, safely, and according to company procedures.
The ideal candidate is organized, hands-on, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced hospitality environment. The Assistant Manager must lead by example and maintain clear communication with employees, managers, the kitchen, the hotel team, and event coordinators.
Main ResponsibilitiesDaily Operations
- Assist the Food & Beverage Manager with the daily operation of the Café, pool, beach, bar, and events.
- Complete opening and closing procedures for all assigned areas.
- Inspect service areas before opening to ensure they are clean, organized, fully stocked, and ready for guests.
- Assign employees to their stations and communicate daily priorities, reservations, events, promotions, and operational updates.
- Monitor service throughout the shift and step in wherever assistance is needed.
- Coordinate with the kitchen and bar to maintain service speed, food quality, and accurate order preparation.
- Ensure tables, service stations, pool areas, and beach areas remain clean and presentable.
- Confirm that closing duties, cleaning tasks, and side work are properly completed before employees leave.
Team Supervision
- Supervise servers, bartenders, barbacks, bussers, runners, hosts, beach attendants, and other assigned employees.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate service expectations.
- Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, uniforms, grooming, and professional behavior.
- Organize employee breaks while maintaining proper floor coverage.
- Coach employees during service and report repeated performance or disciplinary concerns to the Food & Beverage Manager.
- Help train new employees on service standards, menu knowledge, Toast procedures, room charges, guest interaction, and safety requirements.
- Promote teamwork and respectful communication between the front-of-house, kitchen, management, and hotel departments.
Guest Service
- Welcome guests and maintain a visible management presence throughout the shift.
- Monitor the guest experience and address concerns promptly and professionally.
- Handle guest complaints and service recovery within the authority provided by the Food & Beverage Manager.
- Escalate serious complaints, incidents, refund requests, or compensation requests when necessary.
- Ensure employees clearly disclose the applicable service charge before presenting the check.
- Verify room charges by confirming the guest’s room number, first name, and last name.
- Ensure employees communicate accurately about menu items, pricing, promotions, allergies, and dietary restrictions.
Cash and POS Control
- Monitor Toast transactions and ensure orders are entered under the correct employee, revenue center, dining area, and payment method.
- Review discounts, voids, refunds, transfers, room charges, and complimentary items for accuracy and authorization.
- Assist with cash reconciliation and closing reports.
- Immediately report cash shortages, payment discrepancies, suspicious transactions, or unauthorized discounts.
- Ensure no employee shares POS access or uses another employee’s login.
Inventory and Cost Control
- Monitor daily stock levels for food, beverages, alcohol, disposables, linens, and operating supplies.
- Assist with receiving deliveries and confirm quantities and product conditions.
- Report shortages, damaged products, spoilage, or incorrect deliveries.
- Help complete physical inventory counts when requested.
- Ensure products are properly stored, labeled, dated, rotated, and secured.
- Monitor waste, over-pouring, unnecessary discounts, and improper use of company products.
- Communicate purchasing needs to the Food & Beverage Manager before products run out.
Pool and Beach Operations
- Ensure beach and pool attendants follow all guest check-in and payment procedures.
- Verify that guests are assigned to the correct cabana, sunbed, or beach setup.
- Monitor towel accountability and rental equipment.
- Ensure chairs, umbrellas, cabanas, and service areas are clean, safely arranged, and properly maintained.
- Enforce policies regarding outside food and beverages professionally and consistently.
- Coordinate with hotel security or management when guest behavior creates a safety or operational concern.
Events
- Review event details with the Food & Beverage Manager before each event.
- Assist with event setup, staffing assignments, service execution, breakdown, and cleaning.
- Confirm that tables, chairs, linens, bars, food stations, signage, and service equipment are arranged according to the approved event plan.
- Communicate with the kitchen, bar, event coordinator, vendors, and hotel representative during the event.
- Monitor event timing, guest count, consumption, staffing, and service quality.
- Do not approve changes to pricing, menus, event hours, complimentary items, vendor access, or contractual terms without authorization.
- Report damages, missing equipment, guest incidents, or vendor-related concerns immediately.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, alcohol service, and workplace safety requirements.
- Confirm that employees follow proper handwashing, food handling, and cleaning procedures.
- Prevent alcohol service to minors or visibly intoxicated guests.
- Document and report guest injuries, employee injuries, property damage, or unusual incidents immediately.
- Contact the appropriate manager, security team, or emergency service when required.
- Protect confidential business, guest, employee, and financial information.
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant, hotel, beach club, bar, or hospitality supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain professional and organized during busy or stressful periods.
- Experience using a restaurant POS system; Toast experience is preferred.
- Basic understanding of inventory, cash handling, scheduling, and cost control.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English; Spanish or French is a plus.
- Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift or move operational supplies when necessary.

- Maintain consistent service standards throughout every area of the operation.
Authority and Limitations
The Assistant Food & Beverage Manager may direct employees, adjust floor assignments, organize breaks, resolve routine guest concerns, and make immediate operational decisions necessary for safe and efficient service.
The Assistant Manager may not independently change prices, approve refunds or large discounts, promise complimentary services, modify employee compensation, confirm private events, negotiate with vendors, or change company policies without approval from the Food & Beverage Manager or ownership.
Pay: $20.00 - $50.00 per hour
