Good Life Refuge seeks a dedicated and compassionate Farm Manager to oversee the health, safety, and well-being of the animal residents under our care. This role is multifaceted, encompassing all aspects of animal care, including making sure staff is sproviding food and water, maintaining clean and secure housing and enclosures, administering routine and acute medical care, and supervising hands-on volunteers as well as making sure the sanctuary is in great working condition and needed projects are facilitated in a timely manner. Flexibility and quick decision-making are essential, as emergencies such as critical illnesses, injuries, or environmental hazards may arise.
Hours: 20 hours per week
Responsibilities:
- Vaccinations for Animals & Record Keeping:
- Oversee/administer vaccinations to animals as per the schedule.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of vaccinations, illnesses, medical emergencies, and maintenance care (nail, hoof, beak care etc) for all animals.
- Medical and Maintenance Care for Animals:
- Monitor and address the medical needs of animals, coordinating with veterinarians when necessary.
- Medication preparation for residents
- Transporting animals to the vet
- Arranging, transporting and participating in euthanasia
- Supervise and perform routine maintenance tasks for animals, animal housing and facilities including repairs and clean ups.
- Property Management / Maintenance:
- Keep farm, safety and maintenance equipment (cameras, safety equipment, walkie-talkies, weed whacker, mower, wheelbarrows etc) in working conditions
- Make sure fencing and electric fences are in working condition
- Inventory Management
- Manage and keep track of farm inventory, including feed, medical supplies, and equipment.
- Ensure optimal stock levels to support daily operations.
- Planning Projects:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to plan and execute farm improvement projects.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance overall farm efficiency and productivity.
- Management of Caretakers:
- Lead and supervise farm caretaker staff, providing guidance and support.
- Coordinate work schedules and tasks to ensure the seamless operation of the farm.
- Enrichment (Optional):
- Develop and implement enrichment programs to enhance the well-being and mental stimulation of animals.
- Training (Optional):
- Provide training to farm staff and volunteers on animal care best practices, safety protocols, and farm management procedures.
- Tractor Operation:
- Operate and oversee the maintenance of tractors used for various farm tasks.
- Trailer Operation:
- Manage the use and maintenance of trailers for transporting animals, equipment, and supplies.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of proven experience in farm/ranch management.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry practices and farm operations.
- Nonprofit mindset and experience
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with tractor and trailer operation is an asset.
- Repair skill appreciated.
