Supervisory Control
The Landfill Gas Technician reports to Landfill Superintendent and will receive direction from the lead Landfill Gas Technician and Lead Operators.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Landfill Superintendent, the Landfill Gas Technician will perform duties relating to the landfill gas collection system and associated appurtenances. Expected to assist Lead Landfill Gas Technician with activities related to the landfill gas system.
Principal Duties
1. Operate and monitor landfill gas collection systems, including pipelines and equipment, to ensure optimal performance and safety.
2. Flare/Blower station operations and monitoring as needed.
3. GCCS condensate management.
4. Surface emissions monitoring and reporting as needed.
5. Explosive gas monitoring and reporting.
6. Landfill GCCS operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing.
7. Pneumatic pump maintenance to include removal of pumps, inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair.
8. Operate site vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, and smaller equipment.
9. Non-Routine construction repairs or maintenance including HDPE pipe fusion.
10. Interacts with landfill Operations staff to maintain current knowledge of landfill operations that landfill gas collection system.
11. Adheres to all applicable safety rules and regulations.
13. Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
14. Operate heavy equipment and other machinery necessary for system maintenance and repairs.
15. Adhere to all applicable rules outlined in the Chester County Solid Waste Authority Employee Handbook.
16. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED is required.
2. Must be able to work cooperatively in both team and individual tasks.
3. Must be able to properly use and maintain basic hand and specialized maintenance tools.
4. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex equipment.
5. Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.
6. Must have the ability to work independently and the initiative and interest to develop his/her own resources.
7. Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
8. Must have the ability to read and understand equipment literature, diagrams, gauges, charts, and equipment displays normally encountered with a landfill gas collection system.
9. Must have the ability to physically and mentally perform required duties with reasonable accommodations without endangering the health and safety of oneself or others.
10. Must have the ability to work both inside and outside daily in all weather conditions during all seasons of year. The position involves work at an operating municipal sanitary landfill. The position involves potential and possible contact with sewage, landfill leachate, industrial chemicals, and landfill gas.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Work experience in landfill gas system operations and maintenance or environmental.
2. Experience in mechanical, construction or landscaping.
3. Knowledge of safety protocols related to hazardous gases and industrial operations.
