We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual who can confidently step into a dual-role position as both Diesel Mechanic as needed and Service Writer. This role is ideal for someone who has hands-on repair expertise and strong organizational/communication skills to manage front-office responsibilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesService Writer Duties
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, and set up new jobs.
- Greet customers, gather repair details, and open work orders.
- Communicate clearly with drivers, fleet managers, and dispatchers about repair status.
- Prepare detailed estimates, review with customers, and gain approvals.
- Invoice customers promptly and accurately.
- Source, price, and order parts as needed while keeping costs in line with shop policies.
- Maintain records of all work performed for accurate reporting and compliance.
Diesel Mechanic Duties
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems on trucks and trailers.
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and DOT-related checks.
- Troubleshoot complex issues and perform quality repairs with minimal supervision.
- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas organized and in good condition.
Requirements
- Proven experience as both a Diesel Mechanic and a Service Writer/Advisor (minimum 3–5 years preferred).
- Strong mechanical skills in truck and trailer systems.
- Knowledge of shop management software and ability to complete digital work orders/invoices.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask between front-office responsibilities and repair work in the shop.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus).
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
