Position Summary: Performs limited diagnostic radiographic services, provides patient care and assessment to aid in diagnosis of illnesses and conditions. Understands proper positioning and evaluates images in accordance with professional practice standards. Participates in quality assurance activities and maintains appropriate credentials related to clinical practice. This position can require extended periods of standing and sometimes a fast-paced work environment.
Position Accountabilities:
- Collects pertinent data about the patient and procedure to provide appropriate imaging services that meet the radiologists’ standards
- Confirms patient identification and pregnancy status when appropriate.
- Ensures equipment is in proper working order each day and prior to administering any radiation dosage to the patient.
- Performs limited diagnostic radiographic exam using professional judgement and discretion.
- Determines appropriate shielding devices or other accessory equipment.
- Administers first aid or provides life support in emergency situations.
- Monitors the patient’s physical and mental state during the procedure.
- Operates imaging equipment/devices, performs accurate patient positioning, and calculates correct exposure factors.
- Documents patient data, procedures, and relevant information as determined by practice standards.
- Evaluates radiographs for technical image quality.
- Produces additional images as needed to provide appropriate outcome.
- Performs and documents quality assurance activities based on established quality protocols.
- Provides health care services with respect for patient’s dignity and age-specific needs.
- Adheres to accepted standards, policies, and procedures adopted by the profession and regulated by law.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintains appropriate credentials, continuing education, and certification related to clinical practice.
- Ensures all aspects of each radiograph is completed accurately prior to radiologist interpretation.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Job Specifications:
Minimum Education
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant School which includes a limited x-ray machine operator course of studies.
- Certification by a national recognized medical assistant association
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- May be required to travel to other offices within the KC metro
- Incumbent will be required to maintain a calm and profession manner even in high-stress situations.
- Requires critical thinking as no two medical conditions present the same.
- Ability to stand for at least 70% of scheduled shift.
- Lifting, bending, moving patients, supplies and equipment.
- Exposure to radiation, bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, processing chemicals and airborne particles.
