Pay: $21–$23 per hour, depending on experience, reviewed at 90 days and 1 year.
Overnight Travel: Approximately one week per month on average (25–35%), planned in advance, geographically routed, and normally Monday–Friday — weekends at home. All travel expenses paid: company credit card for airfare, hotel, rental car, gas, and parking, plus $50/day meal per diem. Travel time is paid time.
On-Call Pay: When you carry the after-hours support phone (rotating schedule shared across the tech team), you earn an additional $40 per weeknight and $200 per weekend — about $360 extra for a full on-call week — plus paid time for any support calls you handle.
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, with rotating after-hours on-call telephone support (paid as above).
The Role
The Service / Production Technician provides customer on-site installation, preventative maintenance, repair, and customer training for our medication packaging systems in hospital pharmacies nationwide — and, when not traveling, works from our Alexandria facility providing telephone/remote support and building and testing new iPack Rx units.
Specific duties include:
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance visits at customer sites (routed multi-site trips, planned in advance)
- Install and set up systems at customer sites and train customer staff on proper operation and care
- Diagnose and repair electrical and electromechanical issues in the field and by phone/remote connection
- Provide telephone and remote technical support from our Alexandria office between travel weeks
- Assemble, wire, test, and quality-check new units and subassemblies in production
- Complete field service reports and maintain accurate service records in our support systems
- Assist engineering with drawings, testing, and product improvement feedback
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic electronic components and wiring, OR a 1-year vocational/technical certification or higher, OR 3+ years of related hands-on experience
- Ability to solder and read/understand wiring diagrams
- Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose electrical and small-machine mechanical issues
- Comfortable configuring and operating Windows computers in networked environments; competency with MS Excel, Outlook, and similar programs
- Strong customer service, telephone, and written/verbal communication skills — you will work face-to-face with hospital pharmacy staff
- Valid driver’s license, age 21+, with an insurable driving record; ability to travel by commercial airline and rental car
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs; the role involves regular pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, and lifting
- Willingness to obtain and maintain immunizations required by healthcare facilities for site access (e.g., Hep B, MMR, Varicella, annual TB and flu, Tdap) — company paid
- Ability to pass a background check
- Must have own cell phone and be willing to accept after hours calls on company cell phone.
- Flexibility for a rotating night/weekend on-call telephone support schedule (paid — see On-Call Pay above)
Nice to have: field service experience, healthcare/pharmacy equipment experience, IT support experience, or CAD/SolidWorks exposure.
Why This Job Is Different
- Predictable travel — about one planned Monday–Friday week per month, not constant road time
- Variety — field service, phone support, and hands-on manufacturing, not the same task every day
- Modern tools — AI-guided service procedures and documentation that shorten the learning curve
- Real extra earnings — paid on-call weeks (~$360/week) and paid travel time on top of your base rate
- Small-company impact — your feedback and ideas go straight to the engineers who design the product
