Basic Metals operates Metro Detroit's best scrap metal recycling yards. We have our own in-house trucking fleet and maintenance operation, as well as two fully outfitted scrap yards. We specialize in commercial and industrial production scrap recycling as well as open to the public service yards.
Basic Metals is looking to add a member to it's team! We're looking to fill an immediate opening for a Torch operator at our New Haven, MI scrap yard for one motivated and passionate person looking to join the team! Basic has been Michigan-owned and operated since 2006, and we are a family-oriented company that prides itself on taking great care of our people. This person would be responsible for the processing of scrap metal with the use of torches, as well as other various work around the yard. Prior knowledge of different scrap grades and mill spec would be preferred, but we're willing to educate and train. Experience operating a hilo or other equipment could also come in handy. You'd be responsible for processing the following material types (from 1' - 3' in thickness):
- Heavy Melt
- Plate & Structural
- Industrial Machinery & Equipment
- Rebar & Other Misc. Steel
Qualifications:
- experience torching metal of thickness over 1'
- ability standing for long periods of time
- ability to work outdoor environment
- ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 pounds
- ability to safely and efficiently operate cutting torch
