Position Summary
We are seeking a Servicing Accountant with deep loan-level servicing experience to serve as a critical bridge between our corporate accounting function and our loan servicing desk. This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to senior leadership — including the Controller, CFO, and CEO — and is responsible for ensuring the integrity of our servicing portfolio accounting, remittance review, and reconciliations between The Mortgage Office (TMO) and QuickBooks.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working at the loan level, inside a servicing environment, understands the lifecycle of a serviced loan (boarding through payoff), and has reconciled servicing system data to a corporate general ledger. This person is detail-oriented, comfortable owning month-end reconciliations end-to-end, and able to translate technical servicing nuances into clear, decision-ready summaries for executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Remittance Review & Investor Reporting
- Review investor and participant remittances for accuracy, timeliness, and proper application of principal, interest, escrow, and fees.
- Identify and resolve remittance variances, working directly with the servicing desk to correct loan-level data prior to month-end close.
- Validate cash movements tied to remittance cycles and ensure they are properly reflected in both TMO and QuickBooks.
Account & Cash Reconciliations
- Perform monthly account reconciliations between The Mortgage Office (servicing system of record) and QuickBooks (corporate GL), researching and clearing variances.
- Own cash reconciliations across servicing-related operating, custodial, and escrow accounts.
- Maintain reconciliation workpapers and supporting documentation in audit-ready condition.
- Escalate unresolved or material reconciling items to the Controller with proposed corrective actions.
Servicing Transfers
- Coordinate the accounting side of loan boarding, deboarding, and servicing transfers (transfers in and transfers out).
- Validate trial balances, accrued interest, escrow balances, and suspense accounts at transfer to ensure clean handoffs.
- Partner with the servicing desk to reconcile transfer files and resolve discrepancies before cut-over.
Bridge Between Corporate Accounting and Servicing
- Act as the day-to-day liaison between the corporate accounting team and the loan servicing desk, translating between the two functions.
- Identify process gaps and recommend improvements that strengthen controls across servicing accounting workflows.
- Document and standardize procedures for recurring servicing accounting tasks.
Executive Reporting & Communication
- Prepare and communicate reconciliation results, remittance summaries, and servicing accounting metrics to the Controller, CFO, and CEO.
- Clearly summarize complex servicing issues, root causes, and resolutions for non-technical executive audiences.
- Support ad-hoc requests from leadership related to portfolio performance, cash position, and servicing accounting risks.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 6–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant time spent in a loan servicing or mortgage servicing environment.
- Demonstrated loan-level experience: comfortable working inside a servicing system at the individual loan record level.
- Hands-on experience with The Mortgage Office (TMO) or directly comparable loan servicing platform.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills — pivot tables, lookups (XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH), complex formulas, and large dataset reconciliation.
- Proven ability to reconcile a servicing system to a corporate general ledger and resolve loan-level variances.
- Experience with remittance review and investor/participant reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present results to executive leadership.
Preferred
- Experience with commercial loan servicing, private credit, or specialty finance portfolios.
- Familiarity with custodial and escrow account accounting.
- Exposure to servicing transfer (boarding/deboarding) processes.
- Experience supporting external audit or borrowing base reporting.
Key Competencies
- Accuracy and attention to detail at the loan level.
- Ownership mindset — sees reconciliations and remittances through to resolution.
- Comfortable operating cross-functionally with both accounting and servicing teams.
- Executive presence and clear written communication.
- Process-oriented; identifies and implements improvements.
- Discretion and integrity in handling sensitive financial data.
