Under the direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, implementation, and supervision of recreation programs at the Robinson Township Community Recreation Center. The Recreation Coordinator will assist with the development, and implementation of programs, activities, and events that serve the needs of the community, as well as overseeing the part-time staff who work at the Community Recreation Center. The role includes the training, scheduling, and supervision of part-time staff, program delivery, marketing, and customer service. They must also be able to work with a diverse group of people, including community members, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
The Recreation Coordinator must be able to create and implement programs that address the needs of the community and are in line with the mission and goals of the Township. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the community center, they will also play a key role in the long-term planning and development of the Parks and Recreation Department. They must be able to identify and respond to the changing needs of the community, and work to develop new programs and services that meet those needs.
Duties include providing customer service, processing membership applications and program registrations and supervising the use of the facility and enforcing all rules. Also assists in planning, instructing, monitoring and evaluating recreation programs.
Programming includes, but is not limited to, physical and leisure activities, organized sports, games, educational activities, music, arts and crafts, and summer camp. Individuals must possess the sensitivity, awareness and skills associated with working with individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Facility Management: maintain a safe environment by supervising all facility activities; inspect the facility and equipment on a daily schedule and work to rectify any problems; schedule and supervise part-time staff
Program Development, Implementation and Evaluation: identify community needs, develop relevant and appropriate programming opportunities; facilitate fitness programming and/or youth programs and camps; utilize both internal staff and outside contractors to deliver community recreation programs; monitor and evaluate both internal and contracted programming and events
Partnership Development and Relationship-Building: ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, program providers, community organizations, elected officials, and municipal staff
Safety and Compliance: maintain an understanding of, enforce and personally follow all facility policies, rules, and regulations and educate patrons about them
Staff Management; assist with hiring, training, and supervising part-time recreation department staff and volunteers
Budgeting: assist the Director of Parks and Recreation with developing and managing the Community Recreation Center’s budget and ensuring resources are utilized effectively
Marketing & Promotion: develop and implement marketing strategies via social media and other avenues to attract community members to Township programming, activities, and events
Collaboration: work collaboratively with other departments, including public works, human resources, accounting, and public safety to provide the community with high-quality recreation experiences
Complete additional duties as assigned by the Director of Parks and Recreation
Minimum Qualifications
· Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks and Recreation Management, Public Administration, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Communications, or related field
· Minimum 1 year experience in recreation programming, community services, municipal government, or related field
· An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
· Ability to work weekdays, including weekday evenings, and weekends, including special events
· Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and modern methods of recreation program development, administration, and community recreation operations
· American Red Cross First Aid, CPR & AED certification or ability to obtain
· Possession of a valid PA Driver’s License
· Successful completion of background checks: current Act 34, 151 and 114 FBI clearances
· Working knowledge of Google Docs/Sheets, Microsoft Outlook, Canva, social media platforms, and ability to learn applicable recreation-related software
· Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the job; includes hands-on physical work, frequent use of a computer and recreational equipment, and supervision of patrons at the Recreation Center. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Pay: $42,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
