DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you would be responsible for the supervision of inmates and maintaining proper security while ensuring work is performed under safe operating procedures for boiler operations, and generation of medium pressure steam, for heat and hot water for institutional needs. Your duties in this role will include:
- Oversee Inmates: Supervise inmate work crews, monitor inmate movement, conduct searches, and ensure safe tool and supply control; participate in crew work
- Boiler Operations: Monitor and maintain efficient operations of boilers under normal and emergency conditions
- Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, clean, and repair pumps, fans, control equipment, and other boiler systems; perform scheduled and non-routine maintenance and operational assessments
- Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry and water softening system; maintain accurate logs and chemical inventories
- Facility Upkeep: Perform general housekeeping of plant and other designated areas

- Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM; rotating shifts and days off; with a paid lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
