Description

Generate various financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to provide status of assigned funds to management and/or remain compliant with federal, state or local agency guidelines.

Review special revenue accounting transactions and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, Texas Education

Agency guidelines, and applicable policies and laws.

Reconcile and perform analysis for assigned programs weekly, monthly, annually, and at the end of the fiscal year and funding period; determine and record necessary accruals and other adjustments in the proper period; and obtain necessary supporting documentation for any proposed adjustments.

Research and resolve issues requiring correction of errors that are brought to the attention of grants accounting by departments and schools throughout the district.

Take lead role in payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable reconciliation processes.

Complete various daily functions for special revenue funds as needed (i.e. journal entries, budget transfers, reimbursement requests, deposits, etc.)

Provide training and support for grant accounting staff and serve as liaison between the Grant

Accounting department and the special revenue budgeting and financial systems support departments

Participate in the preparation of year-end work papers, Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

Test any new updates to the accounting software to ensure that all accounting entries are processed and posted to the General Ledger properly.

Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.

Five years of directly related experience in accounting financial analysis, and budgeting in a fund environment and 3 years of grants accounting experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, procedures, and their application to a variety of accounting audits, transactions, and problems.

Demonstrated knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Demonstrated working knowledge of financial research and report preparation methods and techniques.

Demonstrated computer skills, specifically with MS Windows, MS Office Professional, and financial systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of the analysis and interpretation of financial data and the ability to analyze, interpret, and prepare a variety of financial statements and reports.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local law and regulations pertaining to accounting.

Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with detailed information/data.
