Job Summary
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for coordinating, supporting, and implementing youth athletic programs and concessions operations for the Parks & Recreation Department. This position assists with youth sports leagues, practices, games, tournaments, facility scheduling, participant registration, customer service, concessions inventory, cash handling, and event-day operations.
The Recreation Specialist works closely with recreation supervisors, recreation aides, coaches, volunteers, participants, parents, officials, vendors, and other City staff to ensure youth athletic programs are safe, organized, welcoming, and professionally operated. Duties and responsibilities may be modified at any time to meet the needs of the organization.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of youth athletics, recreation programming, customer service, concessions operations, cash handling, inventory control, safety practices, and basic recordkeeping.
Skill in communication, organization, problem solving, computer use, recreation software, scheduling support, customer service, and working with youth, parents, coaches, and volunteers.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; follow policies and procedures; maintain accurate records; resolve routine issues professionally; support multiple programs at one time; and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Essential physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods, lifting and carrying supplies up to 40 pounds, setting up equipment, bending, reaching, stooping, working outdoors, and operating standard office and concessions equipment.
